A group visited the Mother Teresa Convent. The Convent was established by Mother Teresa and we were lucky enough to meet (and treat) one of the sisters that worked with her for 15 years in Calcutta.
On the 10th of September 1946, as Mother Teresa (then a Loreto Nun) was traveling by train from Calcutta to Darjeeling for her annual retreat, she received a calling “to love and to be loved by the most forgotten and abandoned and rejected among his children, the poorest of the poor”.
Treating the Nuns provided the Students with the opportunity to further develop skills in treating patients requiring a large degree of sensitivity. Privacy and respect were held in the highest regard and bare flesh was not to be exposed, sheets were used to maintain the Nuns modesty when treating.
After treating, the Nuns presented the students with Mother Teresa Medals, a great honour.
Meanwhile more and more patients are pouring into the other clinics, we are astounded at the physical capabilities of both the very young to very old and all ages between. But this is just a sign of the work that these people partake.
